Terms of sale
Spelling Nest · last updated 18 September 2026
The short version
Your first fourteen days are free. We take your card details when you start, but nothing is charged for fourteen days. We email you before the first payment is due.
Cancel at any point in those fourteen days and you pay nothing at all.
After that it is £20 a year or £3 a month, covering every child in your family. It renews automatically until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time from inside the app in no more steps than it took to subscribe.
If you cancel later, practice carries on to the end of the period you have paid for. We do not refund unused time after that. Nothing your family has done is ever deleted because a subscription ended.
The rest of this page says the same things in more detail. It does not take away any right you have by law.
1. Who you are buying from
Spelling Nest is run by Stuart Coussins, a sole trader trading as K&S Designs.
Trading address: 15 Alice Gardens, Rochford, Essex SS4 1YD
Email: info@spellingnest.co.uk
We are not registered for VAT, so the prices below are the full amount and no VAT is added.
These terms are between you and Stuart Coussins. In them, "we" and "us" mean Stuart Coussins trading as K&S Designs, and "you" means the person who buys the subscription.
2. Who may buy
You must be 18 or over and the parent or carer of the children whose names and word lists you add. Children cannot buy a subscription. The grown up PIN inside the app keeps the parts that cost money, and the parts that hold personal information, with the grown up.
Spelling Nest is sold in the United Kingdom only at present, and your billing address must be in the United Kingdom. If you are elsewhere, email us and we will tell you when that changes.
3. What you are buying
A subscription gives your family continued use of Spelling Nest: adding and changing word lists, and playing spelling lessons, for as many children as you set up under your account. It is one price per family, not per child.
Spelling Nest runs in a web browser. There is no app to install and nothing is delivered to you physically. It needs an internet connection, and words are read aloud by your own device's built in voice, so the voice you hear depends on your device rather than on us.
We may improve, change or remove individual features over time. If we make a change that takes away something substantial that you were paying for, you may cancel and we will refund the unused part of the period you have paid for.
4. Your free fourteen days
When you first subscribe you get fourteen days free. It is offered once per family, on your first subscription.
We take your card details at the start. No payment is taken during those fourteen days. We do this so that practice carries on without interruption when the free period ends, rather than stopping mid week and waiting for you to notice.
We will email you before the first payment is due.
If you cancel at any point during the fourteen days, the subscription ends, no payment is taken, and you owe us nothing.
5. Price, payment and renewal
| Plan | Price | First charged | Then renews |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yearly | £20.00 | At the end of your free fourteen days | Every 12 months |
| Monthly | £3.00 | At the end of your free fourteen days | Every month |
The price shown is the total you pay. There are no set up fees, no charges per child and no charges inside lessons.
Payment is taken by Stripe, which handles the card details. We never see or hold your card number.
Your subscription renews automatically at the price above until you cancel it. Stripe emails you a receipt for every payment.
If a payment fails, Stripe will try again over the following days. While a payment is outstanding your family keeps access. If it is not resolved, the subscription ends and the app becomes read only, as described in section 8.
6. Changing your mind: your 14 day right
You have 14 days from the day you subscribe to change your mind, without giving a reason. This is your right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
Because your free period is also fourteen days, in practice these line up: cancel within 14 days and you will not have been charged anything, so there is nothing to refund.
If for any reason a payment has been taken and you cancel within those 14 days, we will refund it in full.
To cancel, either use Manage subscription in the Grown ups area, or email info@spellingnest.co.uk saying you want to cancel. Any clear statement will do. Refunds are made within 14 days of being told, to the card you paid with.
When you subscribe you are asked to confirm that you want Spelling Nest to be available to your family immediately rather than after the 14 days have passed. That confirmation is what lets us open the app to you straight away.
7. Cancelling after the first 14 days
You can cancel at any time, from Manage subscription in the Grown ups area. It takes no more steps than subscribing did.
Cancelling stops the next payment. Your family keeps full use of Spelling Nest until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not refund unused time after the first 14 days.
8. What happens when a subscription ends
Nothing is deleted. Everything your family has done stays exactly where it is, and you can still sign in and look at it.
What stops is new practice: lessons will not start, and word lists cannot be added or changed. Everything begins working again the moment you subscribe again, with all of the previous progress intact.
If you want your family's data removed, that is a separate choice and it is yours to make at any time, subscribed or not. The privacy notice explains how, and what we have to keep.
9. Changing the price
If we change the price of your plan, we will email you at least 30 days before the new price applies. You can cancel before it takes effect and you will not be charged the new price. If you do nothing, your subscription renews at the new price.
10. What we promise, and what we do not
We will provide Spelling Nest with reasonable care and skill, as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires. If we do not, you have rights under that Act which nothing on this page removes.
We do not promise that the app will always be available or entirely free of faults. It depends on services we do not control, including your internet connection, your device's built in voice, and the companies that host the app and store your data. We aim to fix problems promptly and to tell you when something is wrong.
Spelling Nest practises the word list you give it. It is not a teaching programme, it does not set the words, and we do not promise any particular result in a spelling test or at school.
11. If something goes wrong
Email info@spellingnest.co.uk and tell us what happened. We aim to reply within 5 working days. You can also use Report a problem inside the Grown ups area.
If you are not happy with our answer, say so and we will look at it again. We do not use an alternative dispute resolution scheme. If we cannot settle it between us, you are free to take the matter to court, and section 13 says which courts.
Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise our liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the problem arose.
12. Your family's information
How we handle your family's information is set out in the privacy notice, which forms part of your agreement with us. Subscribing adds one thing to it: Stripe processes your payment and holds the record of it, and we keep a record of the sale for as long as tax law requires, which means that record survives a request to delete everything else.
13. Other things
We may update these terms. If a change affects you materially, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies, and you may cancel if you do not accept it.
If any part of these terms turns out not to be enforceable, the rest still applies.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring court proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your own courts.
