Who makes it

Who makes Spelling Nest

Spelling Nest is made by one person: Stuart Coussins, a parent and a qualified teacher, working in Essex. There is no team, no investor and no office. This page says who writes what you read here, and what that is worth.

The credential, stated plainly

What kind of teacher?

Stuart holds a teaching qualification in further and higher education, not primary QTS. His working life is in education, in academic governance and quality assurance, which is the business of asking how anyone knows a thing is working.

That matters for how you read this site. The teaching expertise here is in how practice, assessment and evidence work, and in reading the research honestly. It is not twenty years of teaching Year 3 spelling, and this site does not pretend otherwise. Where a page makes a claim about what children do, it is either sourced or it is described as what this app does rather than what the evidence shows.

Why it exists

Why build a spelling app at all?

There is one child in this house who would do almost anything rather than sit down and write his spellings out three times. The list still came home every Monday, and the test still happened every Friday. Spelling Nest started as a way to get the practice done without the standoff, on the same method his school uses.

It went paid on 20 September 2026, after a beta with other families. It is run as a sole trader business, K&S Designs, and the only income is the subscription: no adverts, no advertising trackers, nothing sold to a child inside a lesson.

Email info@spellingnest.co.uk and Stuart answers it himself. Spelling Nest is also on Instagram and Facebook.

Spelling Nest is a trading name of K&S Designs, a sole trader business registered in England. The privacy notice names the controller, and the terms of sale set out what you are buying.

Practice that actually happens.

Add this week's list, hand over the tablet, and see what has stuck before the test rather than after it. Alongside writing the words out by hand, not instead of it.
